Make sure that you're eligible

  • Be at least 16 years old (you can sign up at 15 years and 11 months)
  • Have a QLD residential address
  • Have a customer reference number from Queensland transport OR have your medicare details ready 
  • pay the appropriate fees  


Preparing and taking the test

You will have the option of completing the test online using QLD's PrepL program or as a written test at any Main Roads facility. This will drastically change how you prepare for the test as well. Read below for more details on your options.

PrepL

This online interactive program includes both learning segments and the test all in one. Make sure to work through the program slowly to ensure you are prepared and ready for the test. There are 30 multiple-choice questions in total, and you must get at least 90% correct to pass. If you don't pass the test first go, don't worry you can try again, but you will have to pay the test fee again.


Written Rules Test  

This test is a written test, which needs to be taken at a Main Road facility. There are a number of different places you can go to learn the rules before you take the test. Make sure you study and prepare yourself well, so you don't need to do the test twice. Some resources include:
