As of 2021, the Queensland government has implemented some changes to the laws regarding learner drivers . These changes include:

  • Learners must now log at least 100 hours of supervised driving before they can take the practical driving test . This includes a minimum of 10 hours of night driving.
  • Learners must also complete a log book, which will need to be presented to the Department of Transport and Main Roads when applying for the practical driving test.
  • The minimum age to apply for a learner license has been increased from 16 to 16 and a half years of age.
  • Learners are also now required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional driving lessons with a qualified instructor before they are eligible to take the practical driving test.
  • There is also a restriction on the number of passengers that a learner driver can have in the car, which is one passenger under the age of 21 between 11pm and 5am.

These changes are aimed at improving road safety for all road users and ensuring that learner drivers have adequate time and experience behind the wheel before they obtain their license. Driving lessons in Brisbane or Gold Coast ? We can help you reach your goals.
